When a mistake shows up on a page, fix the system that let it through
Why
SEO strategy defines direction. SEO systems make that direction repeatable.

Use AI, and check what it writes against the source before it goes live
Why
Plausible and accurate are not the same thing, and on reference sites, the gap between the two has real consequences if not done right.

Rebuilt this site around the people who look it up and the question each one brings
Why
“This page helps someone who searched [X] decide [Y].” If you can’t finish that sentence, the page needs work.

Stopped promoting two young sites readers haven't found yet, with a date to look again
Why
I started Hear Homer and SaltCellCheck in July 2026. Featured spots on this site go to the work readers are finding.

SaltCellCheck has no Search Console or Bing data yet. Both sites keep their pages and still count in the totals, and I look at them again in January 2027.

A documentation change from Google,
Google's guidance on content made with generative AI
Google's page on using generative AI content now says a person has to fact-check and review everything generative AI produced before it goes live, titles, descriptions and structured data included, and that using AI to make many pages that add nothing for readers can break its scaled content abuse policy.
Source: Google Search Central documentation, , read :
It is critical to manually factcheck and review all AI-generated content for accuracy and trustworthiness before publishing.
Before and after on my sites
A guidance page changes nothing about what ranks, so there is nothing to line up before and after.

A new report from Google,
Image searches in Search Console
Search Console's performance reports, the Generative AI report included, now count searches made with an image: Lens, Circle to Search, image uploads and Chrome's Search this image, under a new multimodal filter.
Source: Google Search Central Blog, Harsh Kharbanda and Moshe Samet, , read :
The data reported here includes searches with Lens, Circle to Search on Android, image uploads to Google Search, and the Chrome right-click "Search this image" feature.

A new report from Bing,
Topics Portfolio in Bing's AI Performance report (beta)

Source: Bing Webmaster Blog, , read :
It is called Topics Portfolio, and it groups the grounding queries where your site appears into broader thematic clusters

More links in AI Mode and AI Overviews
Google is putting inline links higher in AI responses more often, testing a section for official websites at the top of a response, and showing news carousels in more countries and languages.

Why I keep a log
From the decision log on my old site: “I kept losing context on my own decisions.” And what I wrote next: “write down what you're doing and why before you know if it works. Then come back and see if the reasoning held up.”
