AI search: the page that gets cited, site by site
On 9 of my 10 public sites, the page AI answers cite most is the one that holds a whole answer in a chart, a table or a list. Not the longest article, not the homepage. Below is each site's winner and its share of the site's citations, from Bing's exports through Oct 11, 2026.
Each site's most-cited page
Share means that page's citations out of every citation Bing tied to a page on the same site.

What I read in it
This part is my reading of the table, not something the data proves.
- A complete answer gets picked over a good article. The winners hold the full set in one place: every wire gauge, every player, every audiobook, every city. An AI answer can quote one row and point to a page that has all the others.
- Small sites concentrate; big sites spread. On 7 of 10 sites, one page drew at least a fifth of all citations. On my two largest, CheckMyTap (876 pages cited) and WireRef (386), the top page drew 6.6% and 17.1%. There the template earns the citations, not any one page, so the template is where I put the work.
- The exception is a news page. On The Crawler's Cookbook, the winner is the news page: book, show and game updates in one place. Fans ask what's new, and the page answers that one question completely, so I read it as the same rule applied to time.
What I did with it
The table changes what I build next on each site, and the case studies show each decision in full.
- RatingPlate
- I built the site around state cost guides. The guide to reading the label took the citations, so the next version leads with it.
- WireRef
- The citations spread across hundreds of reference pages, so every fix goes into the template that builds them.
- Hear Homer
- A brand-new domain whose plan was to be the most careful source. Its most-cited page is the one verified table of every audiobook.
What this can't tell you
- One engine
- This is Bing's data. Other AI answers may pick differently.
- Seen, not caused
- A citation shows a page was picked. It doesn't prove the chart is why.
- Small numbers swing
- The two newest sites have a few hundred citations, so one busy week can move their shares.
